I am working on a more detailed blog post, but in the mean time, thought I would tell ya a bit about myself. I'm a maker that discovered my artistic side later in life. Granted, I was in a lot of art classes in high school, but I think that was more because it was an enjoyable class then for the art aspect. I have been working in clay for 12 years now. I took a wheel throwing class out of the blue, I think to fill up my schedule, and it changed everything. I switched my degree, got my Bachelors in Art, worked as a potter for a few years, started doing sculpture, went to grad school and got my Masters in Art, and currently work as a ceramic professor at a couple community colleges. I prefer sculpture now but still like jumping on the wheel from time to time.
The picture below is the sculpture that moved me away from pottery and into sculpture. It's a very personal piece that I still have in my studio today. It's about a journey, and when you know the moment is finally right to put the sail up again, even if things don't seem perfect.
